Steel cans are among the safest, most convenient, affordable and environmentally sustainable forms of packaging in the world. Our cans are coated on the inside with a thin layer of plastic to separate the food from the metal. This helps keep the food safe and preserves its nutritional value. This lining contains a very small amount of a substance called bisphenol A or BPA. Extensive studies around the world have found that BPA is safe to use in packaging.
However, we understand that some consumers would like to avoid BPA.
In the U.S. and Canada, we began to ship cans which have linings made from acrylic or polyester materials in March 2016, and today we are proud to say all of our soups are now being packaged in non-BPA lined cans. We are in transition to introducing non-BPA coatings to V8 beverage cans, microwaveable bowls and screw-top lids on glass jars.
We also make a wide range of products in pouches and cartons that don’t use BPA. For example Campbell’s Organic soup, Swanson broth and Campbell’s sauces.
