Campbell’s Chunky donates 56,000 pounds of food to feed families this season  

Tis the season of giving and Campbell’s Chunky Soup stepped up in spectacular fashion. Last week Chunky teamed up with a popular Philadelphia radio station to lend support to their annual Camp Out for Hunger food drive. The annual event, which benefits Philabundance, will use the donations to feed more than 750,000 food insecure people in the Delaware Valley this winter.

 

 

 

Total amount of donations (from Campbell’s Chunky Soup and everyone else) to Philabundance equaled a record-breaking 683 tons (more than 1.3 million pounds of food). To put that into perspective, Camp Out for Hunger collected the same weight as the Statue of Liberty—stacked three times.

This year Campbell’s Chunky Soup was the third largest donor to the food drive, which is run by WMMR’s Preston & Steve Show, a Philadelphia classic rock radio show.

To help support the cause:

  • Campbell’s Chunky donated more than 40,000 cans and was present all week through their sponsorship of the Hunger Games, a week-long series of games that allow guests a chance to score cans of  soup to donate.
  • The Chunky food truck was on hand keeping people warm with hot soup.
  • We had more than 30 generous Campbell employee volunteers on hand to help box food donations.
  • Campbell championed an employee food drive which resulted in an additional pallet of 1,000 pounds of food for Philabundance.
