Press Releases

CAMDEN, N.J., Jan 31, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) — Campbell Soup Company (NYSE: CPB) applauds the new 2010 U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans released today by the U.S. Departments of Agriculture and Health and Human Services.

The new Guidelines, which help to guide Americans on ways to build a healthier diet, highlighted several key areas in which Campbell is focused: increased consumption of vegetables and whole grains, and lower amounts of calories and sodium in the diet.

David S. Smith, Vice President of Research & Development for Campbell North America and Global Nutrition, said, “Campbell is well positioned to help people meet the new Dietary Guidelines. We offer a variety of great-tasting, convenient and affordable ways for people to get more vegetables and whole grains in their diet. Campbell’s portfolio also offers many lower calorie, lower fat and portion-controlled options that can help people to manage their weight.”

The company makes 140 products, including Campbell’s soups, V8 juices, Prego Italian sauces, Pace salsas and SpaghettiOs pastas that provide at least a half-cup (full serving) of vegetables in every serving. More than 40 Pepperidge Farm breads meet government standards for good or excellent sources of fiber or provide at least a half-serving of whole grains in each slice.

As a maker of lower sodium products for decades, Campbell can help people to gradually decrease their sodium intake. The company has steadily increased the number of lower sodium options across its portfolio of soups, sauces, beverages, breads and pastas.

Smith said, “Campbell has been leading the food industry in sodium reduction and today makes over 200 lower sodium products — eight times the number of reduced sodium foods we offered five years ago. What’s critical is that we provide people with great-tasting products that help people to reduce sodium in their diets without giving up the taste they love.”
