CAMDEN, N.J., September 22, 2016 – A new Camden-based public benefit corporation, The Soulfull Project, today launched a unique effort to combat hunger in the local community through sales of a new line of food and accessible community service projects.

The Soulfull Project is the brainchild of four local food industry veterans – a chef, food scientist, marketer and designer – who believe there is an opportunity to make high-quality, nutritious food more accessible to those in need.

One of the founders, Megan Shea, Head of Business & Operations, said the idea for the company came when the group was visiting consumers across America as part of a research initiative.

“The Soulfull Project was inspired by families who try hard to eat well, but often struggle just to put food on the table,” Shea said. “On that trip we made a promise to them, and ourselves, to do something significant to help people in need have better access to wholesome food.”

“It also made us stop and think about how we could personally contribute to helping those in our local community. Working in Camden County we see first-hand the need that exists, and know many people like us who want to do more, but don’t know where to start. The Soulfull Project is designed to help facilitate action through buying our products and volunteering with our partner organizations.”

The Soulfull Project’s first line of food is a selection of non-GMO hot cereal cups. For every cup purchased, The Soulfull Project will donate a serving of specially-created, wholesome hot cereal to a local food bank. The group is partnering with the Community Foodbank of New Jersey, the Food Bank of South Jersey and Philabundance.

The Soulfull Project will also facilitate community service opportunities with its community partners via its website, www.thesoulfullproject.com. To celebrate its launch, the company is currently completing The Soulfull 100 – 100 days of community service – and invites people to join the initiative.

The Soulfull Project’s Multi Grain Hot Cereal cups are available on the company’s website and in 14 Wegmans locations across New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania. The four varieties – Cinnamon Spice, Blueberry Almond, Brown Sugar Pecan and Tart Cherry – are non-GMO, do not contain artificial ingredients and are each under 12 grams of sugar. The cereal is made with wholesome, nutrient dense ingredients – such as steel cut oats, rye, quinoa, flax and chia. The hot cereal that will be donated is made using similar ingredients and a recipe created by the team’s chef and food scientist to ensure it tastes great and provides balanced nutrition.

The Soulfull Project’s public benefit corporation status, requires it meets rigorous performance standards around social and environmental measures, accountability and transparency. The company is overseen by an independent board of directors and supported by an investment from Campbell Soup Company. The first batch of The Soulfull Project’s hot cereal cups was produced in Camden, NJ.
