Creating our Latino Social Justice Fund for employees


Earlier this year, we pledged financial support to organizations that raise awareness, advance education and equity, promote social justice, and fight racism and discrimination.

Over the summer, our Black Resource Group—one of our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs)—and the Campbell Soup Foundation, worked together to identify organizations making an impact supporting the Black community. We launched our first social justice fund in support of these organizations in July, and all employee donations to this fund were matched 100% by the Foundation for a specified period.

As we continue these efforts, the Campbell Soup Foundation is partnering with all our ERGs to set up funds in support of their missions. For Hispanic Heritage Month, the Foundation worked with our Latino Network to support four organizations that are making a positive impact in Latinx communities:

Employee donations to this fund received 100% matching from the Campbell Soup Foundation throughout Hispanic Heritage Month, from September 15 through October 15.

Creating the Latino Social Justice Fund

To create the funds, our ERGs select organizations that are meaningful to their missions and their members. “For the Latino Network, focusing on organizations that provide community support and education to the Latinx community was most important to us,” said Melissa Aguilar, co-lead of the Latino Network and Manager, Talent Management.

Heyde Lopez, Latino Network co-lead and Director of Enterprise Design and Optimization, helped select the beneficiaries of the fund—and for her, it was personal. “As someone who came to America to pursue a college education, I was grateful to receive support from one of these very organizations, The Hispanic Scholarship Fund. They helped fund my undergrad degree and having them included gives me the opportunity to give someone else the same support that I received.”

At Campbell, we believe in empowering employees to increase their impact and focus their giving on causes and organizations that matter to them. That’s why we provide every employee with $1,500 in an annual match to support their direct charitable gifts and volunteer time.

“Advocacy is a key pillar of our I&D Strategy, and I’m proud of our team for identifying and evaluating organizations that are raising awareness and making an impact supporting the Latinx community,” said Kim Fortunato, Vice President of Community Affairs and President of The Campbell Soup Foundation.

In addition to this fund, we provide support for the Latinx community through initiatives like our Healthy Communities program, which helps make healthy and affordable food accessible in Camden where 50% of people identify as Hispanic or Latino. Our CEO, Mark Clouse, has also joined CEOs from companies across New Jersey to announce a commitment to supporting economic recovery in our home state, especially for underserved communities.
