Sharing, celebrating and learning together: Hispanic Heritage Month

Inclusion & Diversity

We’re celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, and the history and presence of Latin Americans who have enriched our company, country and society.

The Campbell Latino Network is our employee resource group that promotes and leverages the talents, perspectives and leadership of Latinx employees. Throughout Hispanic Heritage Month, the Latino Network is creating virtual experiences and learning opportunities that help grow and amplify our culture of inclusion. Here’s a look at a few of the month’s activities.

Leading by example

A group of Campbell Latino leaders and allies sat down for a Latino Leadership Panel to talk about inclusion, facing challenges head on, and their personal experiences.

Julio Gomez is Vice President and General Manager of Campbell Latin America and Global Exports. Born and raised in Bogota, Colombia, he’s had the opportunity to move throughout South America, the United Kingdom, and the United States for his schooling and career. “The experience from my background helped and shaped me by exposing me to understand other cultures. It stimulated my curiosity and passion for learning, and prepared me to handle any uncertainty.”

Maria Macuare, Vice President of Data & Analytics, was taught from an early age that the key to success as a Latin American was to wake up early, put your head down and work hard. “As a Latin American and a working mom, I had to push through a lot of stereotypes to define what my own success would look like. Some of the traditional values I was taught interfered with my professional goals, so I had to trust my instincts and define my own path.”

Colorism in the Latinx Community

As part of our celebration, we hosted a virtual discussion on Colorism in the Latinx Community. The session was led by Dr. Marta Moreno Vega, President and Founder of Creative Justice Initiative Inc., and moderated by Miriam Muléy, CEO and author, The 85% Niche. We invited employees to take a deeper look at race, colorism, classism and economics in Latin America and the United States, prompting one attendee to comment “I feel empowered to be an ally.”

Sabor Latino: Mezcal, Ceviche and Chilaquiles

What’s our favorite way to enjoy each other’s company while learning and embracing different cultures? Nosotros celebramos con comida – we celebrate with food. Each week, we’re going on an interactive adventure with virtual tastings of classic Latinx flavors – from mezcal cocktails, to ceviche, to chilaquiles.

Enrique Arechiga, a sales lead for our Mexico region – and self-proclaimed mezcal enthusiast – taught us the difference between tequila and mezcal, the history and how it’s made, and of course, how to mix up a few drinks!

The Latino social justice fund

The Campbell Soup Foundation and our Latino Network launched a social justice fund for employees to support four organizations that are making a positive impact in Latinx communities. The Latino Social Justice Fund benefits Casa de Esperanza, the Hispanic Heritage Foundation, the Hispanic Scholarship Fund and the National Alliance for Hispanic Health. Employee donations to this fund will receive 100% matching from the Campbell Soup Foundation throughout Hispanic Heritage Month.
