The wisest words ever spoken to me were from my mother who told me that ambition is a part of feminity—words that have been a powerful insight for me throughout my career and I hope they inspire you to take action today.
For more than 100 years around the globe, March 8 has been a day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. It’s become a call to action to accelerate gender equality, and this year’s campaign theme, Be Bold for Change, challenges us all to take groundbreaking action that truly drives the greatest change for women.
I’m proud every day to be Campbell’s first female CEO, but I’m one of only 29 among the Fortune 500, and many times, I’m still the only woman at the table. Campbell has made a lot of progress in this area, but there’s plenty of work yet to be done, both within our company and beyond.
Tonight I’m attending the Catalyst annual awards dinner in New York, a leading global diversity organization. There I will take a pledge to be a CEO Champion for Change. I’m personally committing to help empower women in their careers and embed inclusivity as part of our Campbell culture. It’s something we have been doing since I was a founding sponsor of our Women of Campbell network– our largest employee network that brings the women working here together to be inspired to network and develop their careers every day.
As International Women’s Day reminds us, we need to drive change, foster more opportunities and get women the experience early on to help them lead businesses. To me, taking the time to share the lessons I’ve learned, to mentor and sponsor the next generation of female leaders to navigate their careers and achieve their dreams, is incredibly rewarding.
