Cooking Up Hope ‘That Matters’

News

This week our CEO Denise Morrison and our leadership team kicked off Make a Difference Week—Campbell’s annual week of volunteer service. Our leaders helped students in the Culinary Arts Training program at Cathedral Kitchen cook and prepare 1,000 meals and fruit cups for Cathedral Kitchen dinner guests.

While slicing up fruit for that evening’s 300 dinner guests, the team had the opportunity to talk to Steven Davis, a current Culinary Arts Training program student and Camden resident.  Steven found a home, and a family, at Cathedral Kitchen.

Talking about some of the program’s leaders, Steven said, “Chef Jonathan and Chef Anthony are role models for me.  I wasn’t sure if I would be a good chef, but they never gave up on me.”

Camden, N.J.’s Cathedral Kitchen is an anchor in the city, serving more than 100,000 meals annually.  The organization helps 60 students each year through its Culinary Arts and Baking Arts Training programs, giving Camden residents viable job skills and a place to find the support they need.  The program boasts an 80% employment rate for its graduates – many of whom have been hired by Cathedral Kitchen to run its catering business and work in its full-service restaurant, CK Café.

In our more than 20-year history working with the Cathedral Kitchen, Campbell has provided grants, 200 volunteer hours annually and the skills and expertise of our employees, including our chefs who teach in the Culinary Arts Training program.
