Nurturing Campbell Neighborhoods

Community

Giving back to our communities and supporting our hometown of Camden, N.J. is our Purpose in action. We do this through programs like our STEM Career Accelerator Day, Food Bank donations and our recent annual Make a Difference Week.

We understand there are many ways to build and sustain a healthy community. In addition to employee volunteer service, in-kind support and grants through the Campbell Soup Foundation and Healthy Communities program, Campbell supports its neighbors through tax incentive programs like the Neighborhood Revitalization Tax Credit Program (NRTC). The NRTC program is administered by the Department of Community Affairs and allocates corporate funding to community-based nonprofit groups for the implementation of neighborhood plans. Since 2008, Campbell has provided $6.9 million to support initiatives in Camden such as new housing developments, commercial development, park revitalization, community safety and more.

This year, Camden Lutheran Housing, Inc. received $675,000 through this program. For more than 30 years, Camden Lutheran Housing, Inc. has focused their efforts on building new homes in North Camden for low and moderate-income individuals and families that they can afford to live in.  Recently, Camden Lutheran Housing, Inc. has expanded its efforts and now offers numerous community initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for all North Camden residents. The grant will be used to support a wide variety of initiatives such as decorative board-up of abandoned properties, tree plantings, housing for employed teens, an auto repair start-up and safe recreational activities in city parks.

“The NRTC program allows us to support neighborhood initiatives that are integral to the wellbeing of local residents,” said Betsy Clifford, Executive Director – Camden Lutheran Housing, Inc.  “The collaboration of non-profit partners ensures that all facets of a healthy community – from safe housing, to job training to safe recreational activities and sustainable environment are accessible to residents.”
