CAMDEN, N.J., May 6, 2003 (BUSINESS WIRE) — Campbell’s soup has always been “M’m! M’m! Good!” Now, America’s favorite soup is “M’m! M’m! Good! To Go.”
Campbell Soup Company unveiled its “M’m! M’m! Good! To Go” line of microwaveable soups at the Food Marketing Institute show in Chicago on May 5. Building on the initial success of Campbell’s Soup at Hand soup, a line of sippable soups introduced in 2002, the company launched seven new varieties of Campbell’s Soup at Hand soup and will offer its most popular ready-to-serve soups, Campbell’s Chunky soup and Campbell’s Select soup, in 15.25 oz. microwaveable bowls.
“We’ve heard from consumers across the country who love our soup, but want a more convenient and portable way to enjoy it,” said Jeremy Fingerman, president of U.S. Soup, Campbell Soup Company. “Whether they’re looking to snack on the go or sit down for a meal, soup lovers will find satisfaction in our `M’m! M’m! Good! To Go’ line of soups.”
The “M’m! M’m! Good! To Go” line of microwaveable, ready-to-serve soups will arrive on store shelves beginning in August. The line includes:
-- Seven new varieties of Campbell's Soup at Hand soup, including Chicken with Mini Noodles, Chicken and Stars, Creamy Tomato, Mexican Style Fiesta, New England Clam Chowder, Pizza and Velvety Potato. Three of the varieties - Chicken and Stars, Mexican-Style Fiesta and Pizza - are meant to appeal to "tweens" and teens specifically. Since being introduced last year, each of the four original varieties of Campbell's Soup at Hand soup - Classic Tomato, Creamy Chicken, Cream of Broccoli and Blended Vegetable Medley - are among the top 20 percent of ready-to-serve varieties. The suggested retail price for Campbell's Soup at Hand soup is $1.49.
-- Six varieties of Campbell's Chunky soup in new portable, microwaveable 15.25 oz. bowls, including Beef with Country Vegetable, Chicken & Dumplings, Classic Chicken Noodle, Grilled Chicken with Vegetables & Pasta, Grilled Sirloin Steak with Hearty Vegetables and Sirloin Burger with Country Vegetables. Campbell's Chunky soup is America's leading ready-to-serve soup. The suggested retail price is $2.19.
-- Four varieties of Campbell's Select soup, also in new portable, microwaveable 15.25 oz. bowls, including 98% Fat Free New England Clam Chowder, Beef with Portabello Mushrooms, Chicken with Egg Noodles and Italian Style Wedding. In its first year of national distribution, Italian Style Wedding has quickly become one of the most popular varieties of Campbell's Select soup. The suggested retail price is $2.19.
According to National Eating Trends, 59 percent of meals are rushed, 44 percent of women carry lunch to work or school and 34 percent of lunches are eaten on the run. Soup is consistently a top choice for consumers preparing lunch at home, but falls low on the list for out-of-home lunch choices. With simple microwave preparation and portable packaging, the new “M’m! M’m! Good! To Go” line addresses the needs of busy consumers and tackles the number one barrier to eating soup outside of the home – convenience.
