Flavors Offer a New Twist on an American Favorite
CAMDEN, N.J., Oct 04, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) — Campbell Soup Company (NYSE: CPB) is bringing the colors of Fall to the soup aisle by introducing two limited edition varieties of its popular Campbell’s Tomato soup-Sun-Ripened Yellow Tomato soup and Harvest Orange Tomato soup. The two soups will be available while supplies last at select supermarkets in more than 10 U.S. cities, including Washington D.C., Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Portland and Seattle.
This is the first time Campbell’s condensed soups are being made with yellow and orange tomatoes, which are grown from proprietary seeds cultivated at Campbell’s Agricultural Research Center in Davis, California. These are the same tomato varieties that Campbell grows for use in many of its popular V8 V-Fusion vegetable and fruit juices.
Campbell’s Tomato soup is one of the company’s top-selling varieties-enjoyed by more than 25 million people each week.
“Since Campbell’s Tomato soup was first introduced, it has been one of America’s favorite soups,” said Deborah Arcoleo, Business Director Campbell’s Soup Innovation. “These two new artisanal varieties of tomato soup give people an opportunity to try something new with a little twist; each of these new soups has its own distinctive flavor and a delicious blend of herbs and spices that make it special, with a different taste profile from the original.”
Campbell chefs created the unique recipes with blends of herbs and spices: sage, rosemary, cilantro and thyme to bring out the natural flavors of orange and yellow tomatoes. They also added naturally lower sodium sea salt, which helps to achieve a sodium level of 480 mg per serving, the level considered healthy by the U.S. government, while delivering great taste.
The soups are not only flavorful, each cup provides a full serving of vegetables, no artificial flavors, no MSG added, no saturated fat and no cholesterol.
The new condensed Sun-Ripened Yellow and Harvest Orange tomato soups will feature distinctive labels with the colorful tomato on the package. They will be available for a limited time only at select locations of Food Lion, Fred Meyer, Giant Eagle and Price Chopper stores. They have a suggested retail price of $1.59.
