CAMDEN, N.J., Sep 22, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) — Campbell’s first heart-healthy soups have gotten a makeover just in time for soup season. The 25 varieties of Campbell’s Healthy Request soups — all of which meet the American Heart Association’s criteria to display their heart-check mark — now have even less sodium. Campbell Soup Company (NYSE:CPB) further reduced the sodium in the already healthy line by 15 percent to 410 mg per serving with the same great taste. Plus, the soup labels now feature a bold green heart to underscore the many heart-health benefits of the entire product line while making it easier for people to identify the heart-healthy soups.
Heart disease is the number one killer of both women and men in the United States. According to a survey by the Internal Food Information Council, heart health is one of the top three health concerns that Americans try to address through their diets. The survey also revealed that nearly 80 percent of Americans are currently changing the types of food they eat in an effort to have a healthier diet1. Campbell is working to help meet their needs.
“For Campbell, heart health is a key strategic priority,” said Lisa Walker, Vice President, Soup Innovation at Campbell Soup Company. “We work closely with the American Heart Association to raise awareness of heart disease and to promote the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. But the most important thing we can do is make heart-healthy products, which is why we have chosen to market Campbell’s Healthy Request soups for people who are taking steps to address their heart health.”
Campbell is highlighting the heart health message in a new advertising campaign for TV, print and online as well as on the product labels. In addition to the Healthy Request name being featured in a bold green heart, the entire line displays the American Heart Association’s heart-check mark, which offers an at-a-glance assurance that a product meets the American Heart Association’s certification criteria for fat, saturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol and sodium as well as contains a good source of a positive nutrient, such as vitamin A.
