New Sweet and Savory Varieties Spice Up Pace Foods’ Specialty Salsa Line

Press Releases

Addition of Pineapple Mango Chipotle and Black Bean & Roasted Corn Reflect Fastest-Growing Segments of the Salsa Category

October 14, 2008 – PARIS, Texas Pace Foods has hit the salsa category’s sweet (and savory) spot with the nationwide introduction of two new Pace® specialty salsas – Pineapple Mango Chipotle and Black Bean & Roasted Corn. “Fruit and bean salsas are the two fastest-growing salsa varieties today – with bean salsas up 12 percent over last year in volume growth and fruit salsas up 7 percent,” said Pace Brand Manager Eric Shultz. “This trend shows that consumers are actively seeking more ways to enhance meals with salsa by experimenting with different salsa flavors, ingredients and textures. These two flavorful Pace varieties offer consumers an exciting and fresh twist to make every meal special.”

The Pineapple Mango Chipotle variety has already proven a hit with salsa aficionados, taking 2nd place in the popular fruit salsa category in Chile Pepper magazine’s 2009 Fiery Food Challenge. Awards were presented at the annual ZestFest Festival held in Fort Worth, Texas last month.

About the new specialty salsa varieties:

Our culinary team always seeks to deliver the authentic salsa experience to consumers when developing Pace salsas, and this means using premium, all-natural ingredients,” said Cathy Marschean-Spivak, Creative Kitchen Leader for Pace Foods. “The Pineapple Mango Chipotle salsa has the sweet and savory taste that consumers crave. For Pace Picante and salsa lovers, a good salsa is always defined by the kick of the peppers and quality ingredients; and unlike many fruit salsas, this one isn’t too sweet and has the heat that salsa lovers will appreciate.

The Pace Black Bean and Roasted Corn salsa is hearty and with a complex and deep flavor profile,” adds Marschean-Spivak. “This rich flavor is achieved by the roasting of the ingredients like corn and red peppers, giving this salsa a smoky and roasted flavor.”

Pace Black Bean & Roasted Corn and Pineapple Mango Chipotle join the family of five specialty salsas introduced by Pace Foods earlier this year – Triple Pepper, Salsa Verde, Tequila Lime, Pico de Gallo, and Mexican Four Cheese Salsa con Queso. The specialty line is made with the same passion, care, product consistency, and authentic ingredients that are the hallmark of the Pace brand, established by Pace Foods founder David Pace over 60 years ago. “David Pace brought Picante sauce and salsa into mainstream American cuisine, and we are proud to carry on the tradition of care and craftsmanship that he established,” said Shultz.

Each new variety of Pace specialty salsa is available in Walmart stores nationwide in a 16-ounce bottle, and will be available in most major grocery stores by January 2009 at a suggested retail price of $3.49. Creative salsa recipes and serving suggestions are available on the Pace brand’s website, at www.pacefoods.com
