New Sweet and Savory Varieties Spice Up Pace Foods’ Specialty Salsa Line

Addition of Pineapple Mango Chipotle and Black Bean & Roasted Corn Reflect Fastest-Growing Segments of the Salsa Category

October 14, 2008 – PARIS, Texas Pace Foods has hit the salsa category’s sweet (and savory) spot with the nationwide introduction of two new Pace® specialty salsas – Pineapple Mango Chipotle and Black Bean & Roasted Corn. “Fruit and bean salsas are the two fastest-growing salsa varieties today – with bean salsas up 12 percent over last year in volume growth and fruit salsas up 7 percent,” said Pace Brand Manager Eric Shultz. “This trend shows that consumers are actively seeking more ways to enhance meals with salsa by experimenting with different salsa flavors, ingredients and textures. These two flavorful Pace varieties offer consumers an exciting and fresh twist to make every meal special.”

The Pineapple Mango Chipotle variety has already proven a hit with salsa aficionados, taking 2nd place in the popular fruit salsa category in Chile Pepper magazine’s 2009 Fiery Food Challenge. Awards were presented at the annual ZestFest Festival held in Fort Worth, Texas last month.

About the new specialty salsa varieties:

  • Pineapple Mango Chipotle Salsa – Features a premium variety of pineapple in a “tidbit” cut to preserve the texture of the fruit. The pineapple and mango together give a tangy taste to this medium-heat salsa, which is not overly sweet, but balances sweet and savory to remain a true salsa. The savory taste comes from chipotle adobo – a tomato sauce made with garlic, onion and fully ripened and smoked jalapenos.

  • Black Bean & Roasted Corn Salsa – Features a hearty blend of black beans with fire-roasted corn and red peppers, with a hint of lime and chipotle spice to give it an extra kick of smokiness and heat. A unique touch to this salsa is fire-roasted corn, which provides an even deeper roasted flavor and texture.

Pace Black Bean & Roasted Corn and Pineapple Mango Chipotle join the family of five specialty salsas introduced by Pace Foods earlier this year – Triple Pepper, Salsa Verde, Tequila Lime, Pico de Gallo, and Mexican Four Cheese Salsa con Queso.
